Yep. Does make for a warm house, but until recently, most people didn't have access to electricity. Somehow, humans have survived and persevered, despite the hardship. It may not be too far into the future but what we will be seeking these folks out to learn how they manage as the power grid isn't a sure thing.
Wow! It looks like the house they used to shoot that film "Witness" with Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis! I didn't realize the Amish were in Indiana too.
My development has all our wires underground. I like it. For my first anniversary we went to Lancaster PA and went into an Amish woman's home to buy a quilt. It was quite an experience. I LOVE my quilt. Nelle
Ahhhh... The simple life. I am too spoiled that I can't camp in primitive campgrounds anymore. Have to have the creature comforts. I have to applaud the Amish for their unaffected lifestyle. http://journals.aol.com/dcmeyer420/DearDiary/
I think the photo is beautiful. I recently saw a documentary on the Amish and the problem that they are having with birth deformitys due to the marrying of cousins. One woman left the community so that she could drive and get medical treatment for one of her children. Her son ended up marrying his cousin. She has been ostracized by her former religion. I think they represent a very beautiful lifestyle otherwise. -mark- http://hometown.aol.com/mtrib2/myhomepage/index.html
Ah, yes. I miss seeing the Amish houses. Maybe I've even seen THAT one.
My mom, who is still back in Indiana, hates hot weather ... and I think it's hilarious that it's been nice and cool out here in California. Even if it gets to the mid-80s during the day, it cools off nicely at night. Last night I actually shivered!
I've prolly seen it too. I know lots of Amish people and I still don't get how they can not only marry cousins but give up modern conveniences. Thank God I was born in the age of A/C and blow dryers....
And hey...my cousins aren't all that cute anyway LOL
And so white and clean. Looks like a house I saw in PA, outside of Lancaster. For us it would be a hardship to live as they do, but they don't miss what they've never had. I have to admire them for their spartan living, and yet they do survive. Beautiful picture. Susan
They do on occassion use gas powered generators. My husband loves to stop at their bake sales...I can't handle the whole concept. That is one strange bunch of people....and the many times I did business with them I often wanted to scream. I gave up after a year or so as they worry way to much about how to get around Uncle Sam. They work way to hard. Wishing you health, happiness and laughter. TJ~ http://journals.aol.com/vaultofsecrets/MoonDancer/
Trying to catch up on my reading, sorry I haven't been around much. This house is incredibly beautifulbut Good Grief! Don't you kust KNOW its HOT in there?
