KRISSY'S SCAVENGER HUNT #7

The theme for this weeks scavenger hunt is ABANDONED.  The stairs of this now deserted stadium lead up to the press box of yesteryear, when the field was the home for the  very successful 1960's High School teams.  As you can see, it needs some tender loving care.

I have taken a lot of photos of so many other cities and ignored the little sleepy town I live in.  I am going to change all that starting today!  To paraphrase Dorothy from the movie THE WIZARD OF OZ..."I went searching for happiness and all the time it was in my own back yard!"

Preview

The engine is not actually abandoned, just immobile..static.  Several years ago we had an ice storm and I risked life and limb to shoot a few pictures of the ice covered beast.  I wish I had those photo's.  I wish I had remembered to put film in the camera!

That's one thing that is REALLY attractive about digital photography...your batteries may crap out in the midddle of a shoot, but at least you can't forget the film!  Lisa  :-]

Love the stair pic, but the engine is my favourite.  I like that you made it sepia, it adds a certain something doesn't it!

There is something vaguely haunting about that photo of the steam engine.  Not sure exactly what it is.  It looks like a slumbering beast ... that will one day rumble back to life.

Nice!  (now why do I feel as though I should be running up those stairs...?).... :)

I THINK I WOULD LIKE TO BE RUNNING UP THOSE STAIRS ...SEEMS TO BE OLD AS ME AND COULD BRING BACK THE GOOD OLD YOUNG YEARS LOL

Very nice. You can almost hear the roar of the crowd in that stadium. ALot of memories were made there I am sure. The train is awesome. A real yesteryear memoir. All but 1 train track has been abandoned around here, so we rarely see a train, makes me sad.

Oh, Darlin' me too on those pitcures.  I will be waiting eagerly for the play-by-play of that one.  And I am glad you made it to tell without falling and cracking your head!  The ROCK fence/wall is gorgeous!  Keep 'em coming.  I love your pictures!  Cya, Kris

A most excellent entry to Krissy's photo scavenger hunt. It's amazing how quickly humans will abandon the old and outdated for the new and updated. How many families, lovers, friends, and loyal fans wore a path into those rusted stairs following the Friday night ritual? How many gallons of ice cream and pop/soda were spilled as fans rushed up and down, down and up countless times?

Frozen in time the engine sits upon the sidetracks of life, lost in dreams of past exploits. Journeys it has taken, passengers it has hauled to... weddings... funerals... away to new lives... back to old lives. Now it rests and rusts and ponders when the steam last vented from boilers that once rivaled the fires of hell as men shoveled 24/7 to stoke the hungry inferno powering this mighty engine. As time wears away its very metal the engine watches time flow past while ice gnaws upon its smokestack, and rain pools upon rusted plating.

Inspiring photos. Thanks very much!

Got a moment? Come share a memory of something I'm thankful for ... the wonders and awesome power of nature. Here's wishing you a day full of memories and moments to be thankful for. Toodles.

Man, I would've loved to have seen the Railroad Museum covered in ice...!

When the country runs out of oil, and the trucks can no longer get packages there over night, that old engine will be fired up again.

Great shot!
