PHOTO FRIDAY ENTRY... PATTERN

ROCK FENCE OR STONE WALL?

I know there is a difference between the two, but I can not for the life of me explain it.  There is a stretch of road that runs between Lexington and Paris.  Several years ago the community was talked into changing the road from a treacherous and deadly two lane into a four lane country highway.  Some of the most beautiful horse farms in Kentucky are on that road. A lot of care was taken in saving the integrity of  the area when progress rolled through.  Lots of small details, like putting back up the rock fences.  Though they are no longer rock fences...but stone walls.

A Rock Fence is a thing of beauty, pieced together by an artist. A simple but intricate pattern of beauty.

(Jeez I can't spell!  I've had to edit this five times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

My family built some of the first here in ky. in the one you will notice that no mortor is needed. In the other its peiced together to fit so that nothing is needed to keep it in tackt. They had a class on it right here on main street here in winchester. There really is a difference. WHO D have thunk.

It is wonderful...I'd like to have it in my yard.  The look of age and permanence...it might clash a little with our late nineties neighborhood, but who cares!  Lisa  :-]

Beautiful.  Remember, correct spelling isn't always necessary when it comes to artistic expression. ;)

Another great photo!  If it's higher than you, it's a wall, isn't it?  =P

Hey, that looks like my wailing wall!  The rock fences remind me of the descriptions in 19th century British novels that detail the seperation of estates.

Very nice picture.
