ADVENTURES IN DAVID'S BRIDAL SHOP

...or My New Career as a Wedding Planner

The big news is that they have decided to put off the wedding until next year. Hurray. I do feel like I bribed them just a wee bit, but my new assignment as a Wedding Planner necessitates that it be postponed until a later day.

Yet, we kept our appointment at David's Bridal Shop.

Some one should have clued me in.

What a racket. A sweet racket, a joyful racket, an honest racket, but a racket all the same. Bridget and I walked down the aisle of a million white and off white wedding dresses and she picked out no less than 15 of them to try on.

We got into the back area and hustled into a room and handed a bustier and then the work began. Somehow it felt like tying to get the glass slipper on. No, not the glass slipper but that scene from GONE WITH THE WIND where Scarlett is being laced into the corset.

It was hard work, but I finally got her snapped in. Then the dresses. Over the head or step in? We opted for over the head at first. Where oh where did Bridget go???

The first two dresses did not fit. I could not get the first zipped up. The second was better, but it was all I could do it get it hooked and zipped. I was afraid she was going to rip it. The sales person had exchanged several of the dresses for a larger size, assuring Bridget that the sizes were misleading, and people always sized up and that they truly had to fit at the top....most important thing.

The third dress was ....

Well, she put it on, stepped out of the dressing room and onto the pedestal. My heart was in my throat.

It was as if she had slipped on a dress made of magic. This was THE dress.

Then I started to cry.

I just ran for the tissue and aspirin! Congrats on a dress!
I played wedding planner for my neice and gave her 3 choices in different price ranges on churches, reception venues, caterers, and bands; then, I stepped out and she made the choices. Worked great!

Those bridal shoppes sure know how to
suck you in!  My Sister went with her
daughter to about 8 different ones, and
finally they found THE dress.  1,500
buckaroos!  She told her she had better
plan on wearing that thing for the entire
reception as well as the wedding!  LMAO
Good luck!

The rush of emotion takes you by surprise, doesn't it?  I love the dress in the photo.

Oh, I loved this !  What fun for you and your daughter.  I went through this same thing with my daughter just a few years back.  Yes..... getting into those dresses is a piece of work, isn't it?  And the sizes are sooooo misleading.  The feeling you have when you see your daughter in THE dress is indescribable, isn't it?  I'm glad that things worked out this way for you, and I'm sure that your daughter feels the same way.  Enjoy !   Tina

Is the one in the photo THE dress?  Or are you holding out until the big day to reveal?  This one is so beautiful...worthy of a few tears, that's for sure!  Jae

Bridget looks chariming and beautiful in the wedding dress.     Having an entire year to plan the wedding will make for a well thought out one with few unexpected last minute adjustments.     I know you will make it a day that the couple will cherish and all who attend will have a fond memory of.    mark

Oh my gosh she looks absolutely beautiful!!  I love weddings!  You are doing a great and wonderful thing helping her with this wedding.  I had no help whatsoever with either of my weddings and it was just a really awful heep of work with no one to help.  Hugs,
Lisa

She looks beautiful.  What an exciting time in your lives.  And with the added time (yeah!), you'll both be able to enjoy it more.
