THE DOG ATE MY HOMEWORK

BRIDGET AT THREE MONTHS

This is my favorite picture of all the thousands I have. When I first read the Blogfathers assignment  three photo's came to mind.  Yet, it was no contest.

My Uncle Johnny took this photo. I had a small 110 camera and my photos of Bridget were, for lack of a better word, pathetic! He took pity on me and this photo is the result. Bridget was the apple of Johnny's eye. We lived with my Aunt and Uncle for the first six months of Bridget's life, then moved to Louisville from Houston.

This picture was taken at the waterfront in Houston. We were visiting the battleship they have docked there, can not remember the name. I have displayed this picture of her for over 2o years, where ever I go, where ever I live, it is displayed prominently.

Uncle Johnny died when Bridget was just two years old. They had just moved to Florida and he was in the garage sharpening knives, building a bookcase, doing whatever it is engineers do upon retirement in their garages....my Aunt sensed something was wrong and ran to check. He died in her arms of a heart attack.

I cherish this picture for many reasons.

What an incredible picture.  There's so much personality there, and connecting it to your uncle does indeed make it more special.

It is the Battleship of Texas right next to the San Jacinto Monument.  I have been there hundreds of times, favorite field trip for a Houston school.  Also my father was a merchant marine, spent many days wasting time there waiting for his ship to arrive.

Beautiful baby!

I am so sorry about your uncle.

It's funny how a favorite photo is never just about the image; it's a beautiful picture of a beautiful child, but it's also about your aunt and your Uncle Johnny and a moment in time ~ even a little about loss...Wonderful entry!

That is a beautiful picture...the best thing about pictures, besides the face value of them, is the memories behind them.

Wonderful picture of Bridget, what do you think she's thinking in this one?  I like to do that with Baby pics.   Baby pictures are so bittersweet.  Glad they've grown up and you love them that way, too, but part of you misses the "baby" age and "little girl" ages.
Your Uncle Johnny must have been very special, and I can see why you would hold this photo dear to you.

Best wishes,
Debi

This is definitely an "Oops, I forgot to mention that," type of pix.  Just today I marvled at my 15 year old and I asked him whether he  thought he looked liked the exuberant 6 year old that I prominently display.  He agreed that he did, said he doesn't smile anymore when taking pictures, said he looked older. Ah, such wisdom.  Good grief, they do grow up so.  Race
