Been There, Done That

My entries become farther and farther apart. I have less and less to write about. I have already written about how my family gathers together each Christmas. I have for several years running reviewed the year going over each month with a photo. I have published my New Years resolutions for all to see and for me to know the failure.

It is not that I have run out of things to say, its just that I have learned what an exceptionally small place the Internet actually is, and how one must either go private or write with discretion.

I suppose I have chosen the discretion route which makes for boring boring boring at times.

I am going to rant about Bookmooch.

For about a year I have signed on as a participant and began with a list of approximately 25 books to "swap".  I have found that people wanted most my books, but those I am looking for are either "declined", not mailed, (i.e. request ignored) or simply not there. Factor in the move, I have no idea where the books are and when I am "mooched" I really have to dig.

Recently I was asked for "Tuscany for Beginners" and I found the book and mailed it off. I obviously messed up because the person "canceled" the transaction. I e-mailed her back and explained that I had mailed the book the day before.

I received back a snotty e-mail saying that I did not "follow the rules" and acknowledge her mooch therefore she considered it a non-transaction and canceled. Three days after the request.

Then, she slammed the book when she received it, saying it was not the edition she expected. Granted, it was an advanced reader copy that I had not read because I had inadvertently checked out the same book from the library and read it! (that is why it ended up in the Bookmooch web site).

My question is, what is BookMooch all about? Sharing books to read or book collectors in sheep's clothing?

I don't get it. The book had not been read. The spine not broken and the book itself in pristine, excellent, un-snotty condition.

And the very worst, this is a Kentucky girl.

She must have moved here from up North. (joke from Terms of Endearment).

On to a Rave. I saw the most fantastic movie via NetFlix that made me cry tears of satisfaction at the ending (and I was not drinking!!) and had me rushing out the next day to purchase the soundtrack. The later has been played at least 15 times in two weeks and I have burned copies for both my sisters and two of my closest friends. Not only was the movie terrific, the music is unforgettable.

Naturally an Irish movie called "ONCE".

If you have not seen it yet, quick! Rush out and rent it! If you are a romantic and a music lover this film is for you.

Per Per Post anyone? (just joking).

I've jotted 'ONCE' on a notepad and will be looking for it.  I am a romantic at heart.  I don't know anything about Bookmooch, but I'll be honest, seems to me a great way for book collectors and sellers to get something for nothing.  Grr.

I've never heard of bookmooch but it sounds like it's just a pain in the butt.  Why can't people just be nice???

why don't you put a list of books here and see if someone has them. I have lots of books that I would share. That sounds like my kind of movie.

Speaking of borrowing and not returning, I think I still have your Adobe Acrobat Elements. Drop me a line and I'll send it out in the mail :)

I have not heard of the Bookmooch. Interesting. I do know that over the years I had many wonderful books that I lent out and never saw again. One friend really irked me as she lent the books I lent her to her college student daughters who then took them to school and were never seen again! One book was an out of print Janis Joplin book written by her sister, Laura. I have since puchased another copy but mine had a hot pink cover unlike the one I have now. Oh well. I hate not getting back my possessions and since then am extremely cautious about who I lend to. I have not posted much lately but working 45 hours a week in a stressful job. That means I am living for weekends! I will check out that movie.

It takes all kinds ot make a bad day. That girl might have come from Kentucky, but she surely wasn't Irish.

I have never heard of BookMooch, but I don't think I want to join it.  No, she couldn't be a Kentucky girl!  We Kentucky girls have more class than that!!  I haven't seen the movie, but it sounds like one I will rush out to get.
Nice post!

BookMooch isn't sounding like fun - I think I will stick with the library. They don't complain much.

I have purchased two books on home wiring/electrical through Amazon and had no problem at all.   I am afraid dealing with the general public is filled with idiots.  There are good deals to be found on good condition, even new DVD's, listed at low prices so I will try buying one sometime perhaps.   I use the TV Guide site for my local listings and at the bottom of each day I can just click on the movies and it takes me to Amazon.   I haven't been watching any movies except on TV for quite some time.   When I could not sleep at night I watched many of the 2 and 3 a.m. movies on the UHF channels.   I still haven't upgraded to HD TV and am analog presently until next year when I must buy a converter and get a $40 coupon from the government site.   I read a great article in the Wilson Quarterly 4 times/year publication I receive that was about the African countries farmers making decent livings.   Given the knowledge on farming practices and the creation of a market to sell produce they are thriving in many countries.  It is such an encouraging article given the problems African's are having with HIV and unemployment.  Reading lying on my plywood board that has a cushion and throw rugs on top that is on my mattress, is the only way I can concentrate as reading in a chair is impossible.   I hope to get some housework done today so wish me luck.    mark
