YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN

Downtown Louisville facing South on 4th St.  11th Floor of the 800 Building.

This past Saturday afternoon I drove home. I left Ft. Wayne at 4pm and Sunday afternoon, around the same time, I was headed back.

Twenty-four hours was all I needed. Twenty-four hours was all it took. I feel so much better. Revived. Rejuvenated.  The dark cloud has lifted, at least for the time being.

As I was nearing the bridge on I-65 that spans the Ohio River, I could see Louisville begin to spread before me. My heart began to swell, my chest became tight and yes I began to cry. I was home.

I wandered up and down Bardstown Rd. in the Highland area trying to capture "night pictures" with my camera while waiting on my daughter. They are a disaster! The manual suggested a tripod! ( after five months of having this camera, I finally break open the manual!) HA! Now that I know it can be done, I just need to know how to do it. The Highland area is so alive with people, entertainment, pubs, book stores, skate shops, restaurants, esoteric shops every where you look. Thriving and colorful, bursting with excitement! I just wish I could have captured its essence with the camera. Next time, when I am more practiced.

After visiting with family for all to brief a time, I headed back. The route this time was through Cincinnati!

Hello Trader Joe's!!!! I spent a small fortune in there. Do I really need Trader Joe's Toaster Sesame Oil? Or Thai Red Curry? Trader Giotto's Artichoke Antipasto? Yes...yes...YES!!! It is so much fun to shop there.

This is how I do it. Cafe Twists Chocolate Chip $2.49, "That's 3/4 of a pack of cigarettes that I do not smoke any longer" as I toss it into the cart.

James Keller & Son Dundee Orange Marmalade $3.49, "That's a pack of cigarettes I don't smoke anymore." Toss it into the cart with the honey peanut butter (2/3 pack) and the chocolate covered cherries (two packs).

It is said, "You can't go home again." I say, "The hell you can't".

OMG...and Graters Ice Cream, the 3kinds of ginger, ginger snaps along with the chocolate covered orange bars at Trader Joes... My best memories of Louisville are of the Bardstown Rd. area. Can you believe I ate at the Bristol Bar and grill, when I was a "hole in the wall" bar? The antiqueing and shops are just so much FUN! <<<<sigh>>>  I gotta get back there....soon!    Are you outta those shoes yet?    Anne

I drive 50 minutes to go to Trader Joe's and I just love that place. Nothing else like it. We get their Irish tea bags (regular AND decaf!), the apple blossom dumplings that are frozen and I LOVE the eggplant/red pepper spread. I go about once a month and stock up. I love the samples and recipes too. Glad you got a dose of just what you needed. :)

So glad your trip home rejuvenated you.  Sometimes it can be so hard to be away from your old stomping grounds.  And I'm sure the rotten job experience hasn't made it any easier.  It will get better, though.  You'll find things about Ft. Wayne to love.  Lisa  :-]

Try a Monopod with your new digital camera. Fast deployment, easy carry, relatively unobtrusive and good ones double as walking sticks -- they just have funny protrubances on top, don'tcha know...

Cool!  Just don't get into a weekly long haul thing.  My brother burned through a lot of cars and money making weekly trips between Washington DC and Rochester, and later between Cleveland and Rochester.  I hope things come together for you soon, with a good job in a place you want to be.  (Is there an echo in here?) - Karen

I like your currency.  Too bad, I still smoke and can not trade it for gourmet food. The pic looks good. I love your closing statement. Yay, Mary!!!

Cigarettes on the brain. Heeheehee. I'm already figuring how I can spend the $150 per month windfall. I've already spent $40 by joining another gym. The other $100, I'm thinking facials and massages. Oh, and Trader Joe's Whole Wheat French Toast. It's to die for! :-) ---Robbie

Hey! Facing south from the 800 Building in Louisville...Hmmm...Look! There's my house!

Everytime I'm up in Indiana and I'm coming home via I-65, the ground drops and you enter the Valley and see the Louisville skyline, it's such a wonderful sight!

You were in my neck of the woods.  I live right across the river from Louisville.  Every morning I cross the Kennedy Bridge (I-65) to go to work, and it is very pretty in the dark with the waterfront all lit up.  The Highlands is a beautiful part of town.  Bardstown Road is certainly alive, even late at night!  Glad you enjoyed your visit home.
