A Glory Glory Day

I just took off yesterday. Around 7am I grabbed the car keys and headed...west! Had no idea where I was going but knew there was a State park somewhere between here and there.

Close to my destination I came upon the most beautiful stretch of road. On both sides of the highway along the fence lines were these beautiful flowers! This had to be someone's labor of love. It was enchanting. And it lasted for about three miles.

I took a long hike at the park. I was almost the only one there. The silence was beautiful. I walked up on the largest mushrooms I have ever seen in my life. Someone had laid them in the middle of the path! They were the size of basketballs!  They resembled giant marshmellows due to the sticks poked in them.

I realized I was very alone in the heart of a forest. I remembered Hansel and Gretel....I looked around to see if a magical cottage was somewhere on the edge of the tree lines.

Then I remembered The Blair Witch Project!

I walked out a lot faster than I walked in!

What great pictures!  I am glad you still have wildflowers blooming in your part of the country.  And, I can see the grass is still green as well.  Lucky!

Hi Mary:  You are SO right about Blair Witch Project--mushrooms, toadstools, any species of mushrooms come from dead, decaying objects--look, do not touch, do not eat, do NOT injest ever, and most of all be cautious in going back--it sure sounds suspicious that these mushrooms were SO big--what in the heck died--I don't think I would like to know!!  When I was a toddler in an area called Point Place near the Maumee River in Ohio, I swallowed a toadstool and was taken to Mercy Hospital to have my stomach pumped because of the injestion of these toadstools that my Dad (who was in WWII) found left in my little hand--I don't remember this event on a conscious level, but I still remember my mother telling me about it more than once--she said that the hospital nurses and doctors told her you can die from injesting these pillows of tan vegetative looking substances and old, dead, decaying matter--you may want to think about reporting this matter to the officials there!!  I think Indians used to use them for healing wounds--???
They may want to run some tests there and God forbid, if there are any children in that Park area--you may want to report it to the Park officials if there are any--thanks for the note the other day--I appreciate your thoughts and will write to you when I have more time--have a good week Mary and if you have time say prayer for me tomorrow afternooon--I have an important medical test!!

To me being able to enjoy nature such as this is a spiritual experience. I often wished I lived near a Franciscan church I could attend. To me animals and nature are very much a part of my religious beliefs. Very beautiful pictures. :) Nelle

So you had some time outdoors yesterday as well!  I thought of you when I was watching the movie yesterday, wondering if that was your old stomping grounds.  Something about a picture of your old house that you'd posted made it look like it belonged in the movie.  Then I read your comment and had to smile again.

lol!  I remember a mail order catalog I used to get had this "carpet of flowers". It was like a roll of wallpaper, only more hay-like, that you rolled out and watered. It was supposed to create long stretches of wild flowers. This reminds me of that.

Blair Witch... LOL!   I once got scared out of the woods by weird noises that turned out to be baby quail. ;)
Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Beautiful pictures. I just suggested it to my husband that we need to get out and do some hiking before it gets cold.

Yeah...you can only be brave if you make up your mind not to think about it at all!  I don't think I would have gone walking off into the woods alone.  I would at least have had the intrepid Lucy the Wonderdog at my side.  Lisa  :-]

The flowers are brilliant.  Biggest mushrooms I have ever seen.    mark

Hansel and Gretel found a cottage made of sweets. You found magic 'shrooms. The 60's changed everything.

It sure makes traveling more pleasant when you have a nice scenery instead of just highway. They plant different flowers along the highway too. I was out and about in the woods this weekend too. Didnt see any mushrooms like that though!

I love days like that...'cept when my overactive imagination gets the best of me!  That Blair Witch project movie has cut short many relaxing walks in the forest.  Dona  http://journals.aol.com/delela1/BlueSkiesandGentleBreezes

Beautiful flowers.  Sounds like the perfect day.  [after knowing you made it out of the blair witch project]

Huge mushroom.  Interesting 'Hansel and Gretel' came to mind.  I might've thought more along the lines of 'Alice in Wonderland'.  In which (witch) case, I might still be stuck in the forest.

I was in the woods this weekend.  The trees were grabbing me and at one point it was almost scary.  I actually turned my camera around and took a picture of my own face like that girl in the Blair Witch Project, but I deleted it because it gave a very detailed view of my nostrils!
Your mushrooms are so pretty and white.  The ones around here look dirty.
