Oh my! You would think the hotels would have been the most sturdiest on the island since most of them are probably owned by bigtime global corporations. Sheessh! One of the guys at work is getting married today and they planned on taking an extended honeymoon in May to Cancun. He was told it would be okay come time for the trip. I'm beginning to wonder!

It must have been almost unimaginable for you, walking through tHAT and remembering what it looked like when you stood there with your plastic bag four days earlier.  Thank God for the luggage - and really thank God for all the good people who helped to see you through this! - Karen

whoa......................  intense lobby picture.

interesting how (on the cancun map) the Golden Arches are more prominent than the landmarks.

Just wondering if you had taken pictures before the storm of the lobby???

We were there in the early 90s and I have the same map of the hotel district in my scrapbook.  I  have photos of hotels along the beach which had been devastated by a hurricane the year before we were there and were still skeletal shells, never rebuilt.  I think Cancun was hit again a few years ago, and now Wilma.  It is so sad, as the Mexican economy always needs all the help it can get.   Your account is riveting and I must move forward to the next installments!  *debbi*
